Joseph M. Clapp began his career in transportation in 1959, joining Roadway Express in 1967. In 1970, Clapp served as District Sales Manager in the Carolinas and, in 1975, became Vice President of the Washington, D.C. office. In 1979, he was promoted to Vice President-Commerce. Clapp became Senior Vice President of Roadway Services, Inc., in 1982, Vice Chairman-Corporate Services in 1985, Vice Chairman and President in 1986, President and Chief Executive Officer and Chairman in 1987, then Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. In August, 1995, he was named Chairman.
