John R. Davis

Distinguished Service Citation Award 1953

In recognition of his outstanding talent for salesmanship and organization which have been responsible for the sale of more than 25 million motor vehicles; For his affiliation with the Ford Motor Company, which began in 1919 and where his ability in the sales field advanced him to the positions of Assistant General Sales Manager, General Sales Manager, Western Regional Manager, and Director of Sales and Advertising.

He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1945, and six months later named a Vice President of the company; For his broad conception of salesmanship, and his insistence on the importance of cooperation between the factory and the dealer; For his interest in civic affairs, including among other services, direction of the Detroit Community Chest, chairmanship of the Greater Detroit Hospital Fund, and the United Negro College Fund.
