Sam Hanks

Distinguished Service Citation Award 1971

He was the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 1957, and retired and became Director of Racing for Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His other awards include National Champion in 1953 and National Midget Champion 1949. In 1954 he established world closed course record 182.554 MPH.
